Attar means 'perfumer'—he actually ran an apothecary! 'Conference of the Birds' tells of birds seeking the Simorgh, only to discover they ARE the Simorgh ('Si Morgh' = 'thirty birds' in Persian). Rumi said: 'Attar was the spirit and Sanai his two eyes / We came following Sanai and Attar.' Attar was killed during the Mongol invasion.
