Tusi convinced Hulagu Khan to build the Maragheh Observatory—the world's largest at the time! His 'Tusi couple' mathematical device made heliocentric models possible 300 years before Copernicus. During the Mongol invasion, Tusi took refuge in the Ismaili fortress of Alamut and saved its library.
