Kiarostami won the Palme d'Or for 'Taste of Cherry' (1997)—the first Iranian to win! Akira Kurosawa said: 'When I watch Kiarostami's films, I understand why God created cinema.' He started at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children. His 'Koker Trilogy' was filmed in Rasht.
