Avicenna's 'Canon of Medicine' was the standard medical textbook in Europe until the 18th century! He wrote 450 books and was called 'Sheikh al-Ra'is' (Prince of Physicians). He proposed quarantine to prevent disease spread. He became court physician of the Samanids at just 18!
