Sir Frederic Goldsmid was the British commissioner who determined Iran's borders with Afghanistan and British India. Two treaties were signed in 1870 and 1872. These treaties separated parts of Baluchistan and Sistan from Iran. The arbitration favored Britain and Afghanistan.

Construction of Persepolis

Gondishapur (Jundishapur) in Khuzestan was the greatest intellectual center of the ancient world. The academy taught medicine, philosophy, astronomy, mathematics, and theology. Its teaching hospital became the model for Islamic hospitals.
