Rudaki was blind yet called 'Adam of Poets' (first poet)! He lived at the Samanid court in Bukhara and reportedly composed 100,000 verses, of which only 1,000 survive. When Emir Nasr stayed in Herat too long, Rudaki recited the 'Scent of Mulian Stream' qasida, moving the Emir to tears and spurring his return!
