Khaghani is called 'Hassan al-Ajam' (the eloquent Persian). His qasida 'Iwan of Ctesiphon' about the ruins of Ctesiphon is a masterpiece of Persian literature. Born in Shirvan (modern Azerbaijan), he died in Tabriz. His complex style and novel metaphors are renowned.
