Festival of Dey (Creator) on the first day of Dey month, honoring Ahura Mazda, the one God in Zoroastrianism. This is the first of four Digan festivals in Dey month.

Historical Context

Deygan is the most important festival of Dey month, celebrated on its first day. The first day of each month is called Hormozd (Ahura Mazda), but in Dey month this day holds special significance. During the Sassanid era, this festival was grandly celebrated and kings would sometimes be crowned on this day.

Fun Facts

Dey means 'Creator' or 'Giver' and refers to Ahura Mazda. In Dey month, four days bear the name Dey: the 1st (Hormozd/Dey), 8th (Dey-be-Azar), 15th (Dey-be-Mehr), and 23rd (Dey-be-Din). All four days were celebrated.
