Absalan or Bahar Jashn, a rain-seeking and spring festival. Biruni wrote that Kayanian kings called it "Bahar Jashn." Other names include "Kouseh Barneshin" and "Ab Pashan" (water-splashing).

Biruni describes the "Kouseh-savi" tradition: a beardless man would ride a donkey and fan himself while people splashed water on him. This comedic performance was meant to invoke rain.

The word "Absalan" has uncertain etymology. Tafazzoli translates the Pazand form "Avsaran" as possibly meaning "springtime." In the Rig Veda, the similar word "Apsara" may mean cloud or rainstorm.
