Historical Context

Abangah is an ancient festival honoring water and the goddess Anahita (Aredvi Sura Anahita). In the Avesta, Anahita is the goddess of waters, fertility, and purity. This festival differs from Abanegan (10th of Aban month), which is the name-day feast when day and month names coincide, though both celebrate water.
